Visual Studio (C++, etc.)

DCS has a site license for the Microsoft Developers Network that includes all of the programming tools and environments, but not Office or any of the operating systems. See http://msdnaa.cs.uiuc.edu for more detail.

MATLAB

It works even at home with VPN. You don't need a fix IP. After you download the iso images from CITES Webstore, do not mount all of them (as greedily I did it). Just mount the first one, and run the installer. It will ask for the second disk, just mount the second image, and so on. Win or Mac, it doesn't matter, everything should work fine. See Software for more detail.

Mathematica:

Go to CITES webstore.cites.uiuc.edu and login through bluestem, then click on departments and select mathematica. Faculty/staff need to purchase licenses for each computer at a cost of $50/year.

Maya

We have a site license for Maya administered through TSG by Barb Leisner and Theresa Schurg.
Maya is installed on the Windows machines in the CSIL lab.

Inkscape

This is a free alternative to Adobe Illustrator. http://www.inkscape.org/
