About Images
Some people I know like to read papers by skimming through them quickly with the scroll wheel, only actually reading the text if the images look cool. I won't deny this pleasure to those who like to "scroll first, ask questions later":

What's the point of computer graphics?

In the 20th century if you wanted to communicate an idea visually you'd almost unquestionably use a camera. If you disagree, consider the following: newspapers, magazines, television, and movies. The basic problem with a camera is that it can only transform one visual representation into another. In other words, the thing you want to talk about has to be visible already. In the 21st century computers are just as ubiquitous as cameras. The great thing about a computer is that it can communicate any kind of information visually, even the really invisible stuff. The only difficulty now is that you can't rely on the lens, the lighting, and the filters to transform the information for you - that's why you need computer graphics.
